Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over
That was a line from a great piece that The Onion did back in January of 2001 (who knew that The Onion employed psychics?). I was reminded of that line while reading about what President Bush said during his speech a this years Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC):
"My energy is up, my spirit is high, and I will finish strong. And in the meantime, we will elect a new President. We’ve had good debates and soon we’ll have a nominee who will carry a conservative banner into this election and beyond. Listen, the stakes in November are high. This is an important election. Prosperity and peace are in the balance."
Prosperity, huh? I'm sure the 7,500 people who stood in line to apply for 350-400 jobs at a Wal-Mart in Georgia last month don't have Bush's confidence in this country's prosperity.
And I bet that the families of the 42 people killed today in Iraq might have a different idea about the peace part of that speech too.
Man, his exit can't come too soon as far as I'm concerned.
